PACOM detects NK IRBM
September 14, 2017 — U.S. Pacific Command detected and tracked what we assess was a single North Korean ballistic missile launch at 11:57 a.m. (Hawaii time) Sept. 14. Initial assessment indicates the launch of an intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM). The launch occurred in the vicinity of Sunan, North Korea and flew east. The ballistic missile overflew the territory of northern Japan before landing in the Pacific Ocean east of Japan. PACOM detects three NK missile launches
August 25, 2017 — U.S. Pacific Command detected and tracked what we assess were multiple North Korean ballistic missile launches between 11:49 a.m. and 12:19 p.m. Hawaii time Aug. 25. Initial assessment indicates three short-range ballistic missile launches. The first and third missiles at 11:49 a.m. and 12:19 p.m. failed in flight. The second missile launch at 12:07 p.m. appears to have blown up almost immediately. The three launches occurred near Kittaeryong, North Korea. We are working with our Interagency partners on a more detailed assessment and we will provide a public update if warranted... MORE

THAAD Environmental Study
August 12, 2017 — U.S. Forces Korea representatives and members of the Republic of Korea Ministry of Environment traveled to the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) location to conduct an environmental study at Seongju, Republic of Korea, Aug. 10, 2017. The ROK and the U.S. continues to coordinate on all aspects of the deployment of the THAAD system to South Korea. This is being done in a transparent way and in compliance with ROK domestic law. ... The visit was the Honorable Song’s first time to USFK headquarters since taking over as the MINDEF July 14. The ceremony included an inspection of the troops, a 19-gun salute and a presentation of one of the shell casings to honor the MINDEF.
