YONGSAN GARRISON, SEOUL, Republic of Korea – U.S. Forces Korea Commander General Vincent K. Brooks received the Tongil Medal of the Order of National Security Merit from South Korean President Moon Jae-in during the Armed Forces Day ceremony held today at the headquarters of the ROK Navy's Second Fleet in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.

대한민국 서울 용산기지 – 한미연합사/유엔군사/주한미군사령관 빈센트 K. 브룩스 대장은 경기도 평택시에 위치한 해군 제 2함대사령부에서 거행된 대한민국 국군의 날 기념식에서 대한민국 문재인 대통령으로 부터 대한민국 보국훈장 통일장을 받았다.

Today’s award citation marks the first time a USFK commander received a state medal  during the Republic of Korea’s annual event commemorating the armed forces.

주한미군사령관이 대한민국 국군의 날 기념식에서 국가훈장을 수여받은 것은 이번이 처음이다. 

In addition to the Tongil Medal, President Moon also presented commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK), the ROK Presidential Unit Citation (PUC).The ROK PUC is the highest unit-level award given by the ROK government and was awarded to all of the Sailors of CNFK for “outstanding contribution to the defense of the Republic of Korea."

주한미군사령관에 대한 보국훈장 서훈과 함께 주한미해군사령부는 대한민국 대통령 부대표창을 받았다. 대한민국 부대표창은 한국 정부에서 수여하는 최고영예의 부대 표창으로 주한미해군사령부의 장병들이 대한민국 방어에 기여한 공로를 인정해 수여되었다.

"I want to thank the Chairman of the ROK JCS, the Minister of National Defense, and especially the President for recognizing US Naval Forces Korea as a unit, and for the great honor conferred upon me as an individual,” said Gen. Brooks. “I humbly accept the award on behalf of all the men and women I lead, and I view this medal as an expression of the President's support for the ROK-US Alliance."

주한미군사령관 브룩스 대장은 “국방부장관님과 합참의장님께 감사드리며, 특히 주한미해군사령부에 부대표창을 수여하시고 제에게 큰명예인 대한민국 훈장을 수여해주신 대통령님께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 모든 주한미군 장병을 대신하여 이 훈장을 받은 것을 영광으로 생각하며 이 훈장이 굳건한 한미동맹을 지원하는 대통령님의 뜻으로 받아들겠습니다.”고 소감을 밝혔다.
