U.S., ROK Navies Strengthen Combined Undersea Warfare During Silent Shark 2025

The U.S. Navy and Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy successfully completed the biennial theater anti-submarine warfare (TASW) exercise Silent Shark 2025 in Guam, Dec. 11. Organized by Commander, Submarine Group 7 (CSG-7), Silent Shark is a long-standing bilateral exercise designed to strengthen interoperability and advance combined TASW capabilities between the U.S. and ROK navies. This year marks the 10th iteration, following the previous exercise in 2023.

Brunson underscores Korea’s central role in Indo-Pacific security at NDU

Gen. Xavier Brunson, commander of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and United States Forces Korea addressed students and faculty at the National Defense University on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, as part of the university’s Presidential Lecture Series at Fort McNair in Washington. The event in Roosevelt Hall brought together senior U.S. and international military officers, interagency professionals and international partners to examine the evolving security environment on the Korean Peninsula and across the Indo-Pacific.

ROK and U.S. Marines train together during Ulchi Freedom Shield 25

United States Marines from III Marine Expeditionary Force, 3d Marine Division, and other subordinate units are now deployed in support of combined training with their Republic of Korea counterparts for the annual exercise, Ulchi Freedom Shield 25. As the Marine Corps commemorates 250 years of service, the U.S.-ROK Alliance continues to exemplify the strength of shared sacrifice and the enduring pursuit of peace.

TACHYON ECHO 25-2 strengthens combined Technical Effects integration across Tri-Command

From July 8 to 11, U.S. Forces Korea hosted TACHYON ECHO (TE) 25-2, a Tri-Command Technical Effects Tabletop Exercise (TTX) with over 100 participants from United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) Command. This latest iteration builds on momentum from previous exercises and further develops the Tri-Command’s ability to integrate combined-joint, all-domain operations (CJADO) capabilities in support of regional deterrence and readiness. Maj. Gen. William Taylor, Operations Director for the Tri-Command, oversaw the effort and highly emphasized that “keeping the momentum on continual refinement of our CJADO, while staying ahead of our adversaries, is paramount for success as well as stability in the region going forward.”

Republic of Korea-United States-Japan Trilateral Chiefs of Defense Joint Press Statement

Seoul, Republic of Korea — Republic of Korea (ROK) Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Kim Myung-soo, U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine, and Japan Chief of Staff, Joint Staff Gen. Yoshida Yoshihide convened the 22nd Trilateral Chiefs of Defense (Tri-CHOD) Meeting on July 11, 2025, in Seoul. The three chiefs of defense recognized the importance of close trilateral cooperation in addressing security challenges on the Korean Peninsula, in the Indo-pacific and beyond.
