United States Forces Korea

Welcome to United States Forces Korea. Our mission is to deter aggression and if necessary, defend the Republic of Korea (ROK) to maintain stability in Northeast Asia. The Service Members of the United States and the Republic of Korea have stood together for more than 70 years maintaining the Armistice and setting the conditions for stability and prosperity in the Republic of Korea. As a result, the Republic of Korea has flourished since the end of the Korean War and is now a respected, successful, and thriving democracy.

The important mission in Korea gives Service Members excellent training opportunities. Along with some of the most realistic and effective training conducted by our Armed Forces, the training is multi-national, combined, and joint. You will not only train and work with Service Members from different services, but you will train and work with our ROK partners and the United Nations Command Sending States.

The quality of life in the ROK is great, and you will have an opportunity to experience a magnificent culture. The South Korean people are gracious hosts with an interesting history. For Service Members and their Families, we have a community atmosphere with many activities for single Service Members, Civilians, and Children of all ages.

For those that are coming to Korea, the United States Forces Korea website is set up to assist you with your move and learn about command and community information. On the site, you will find an overview of my command vision, priorities, policies, command messages, and other critical information. This information is to ensure that you and your family are prepared for a challenging and very rewarding assignment in Korea.

Thank you and Katchi Kapshida! (We Go Together)

Joint Meritorious Unit Awards

Background

Authorized by the Secretary of Defense on June 10, 1981, this award was originally called the Department of Defense Meritorious Unit Award. It is awarded in the name of the Secretary of Defense to joint activities for meritorious achievement or service, superior to that which is normally expected.

USFK Awards

Ribbon

This award ribbon is identical to the Department of Defense Superior Service Medal ribbon, indicative of the fact that the service performed would have been similar to warrant the award of this medal to an individual. It has a center stripe of red, flanked on either side by equal stripes of white, light blue and gold, with a narrow stripe of light blue at the edge. The ribbon is within a gold colored 1/16 inch wide metal frame with laurel leaves. Similar to other Army and Air Force unit awards, it is worn in the same manner.
