U.S. ARMY GARRISON YONGSAN, South Korea   –   The United States and Republic of Korea Forces conducted a show of force today in response to North Korea’s recent ballistic missile launch that flew over northern Japan into the Pacific Ocean on Aug. 29.

대한민국, 미 용산기지 – 미국과 대한민국 공군은 북한이 8월29일 일본 북부 상공을 통과하는 탄도 미사일 발사에 대응하여 오늘 군사력을 과시했다.

Four U.S. Marine Corps F-35Bs, the United States’ newest and most advance fighter from the Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni (Japan), returning to Korea for the third time since their stationing in Japan less than a year ago, joined two B-1Bs from Andersen Air Force Base, Guam; and four Republic of Korea F-15Ks to emphasize the combined capabilities representing the ironclad commitment to the defense of allies and the U.S. homeland.

이번 훈련은 북한 미사일 발사에 대응해 동맹국과 미국 본토 수호 의지를 확고히 하기 위해, 미 최신예 전투기인 미 해병 F-35B 4대가 일본 이와쿠니 해병 항공기지에서 배치된지 1년도 채 안되어 3번째로 한국에 출격했으며, 괌 엔더슨 공군기지에서 B-1B폭격기 2대, 대한민국 공군 F-15k 4대가 참가하였다.

“The Korea-U.S. Alliance forces provide capabilities like these as ready options for the leaders of our respective nations,” said General Vincent K. Brooks, the commander of U.S. Forces Korea. “The U.S. did not dispatch bombers during the recently concluded exercise in hopes that the reduced scale would send a positive signal to North Korea and the region,” he said. "Instead, North Korea responded to the gesture with rehearsals of special operations raids against South Korean islands, three short range missile firings, and one intermediate range ballistic missile that overflew Japan and landed in the Pacific Ocean. Apparently the changes in the exercise did not matter.”

주한미군사령관 빈센트 K. 브룩스 장군은 “한미 동맹은 준비된 방안으로 오늘과 같은 능력을 갖추고 있음을 이웃 국가들에게 보여주었다”면서 “미국은 북한과 지역국가에 긍적인 메세지를 보내고자 오늘 종료된 연습 기간동안 폭격기를 출격시키지 않았다”라고 말했다. “그러나, 북한은 이러한 제스처에 대한 답변으로 서북도서 점령 훈련과 세발의 단거리 미사일 및 일본 상공을 지나 태평양으로 탄도미사일을 발사 하였다. 결과적으로 폭격기가 출격하지 않더라고 변화되는것은 없었다.”라고 덭붙였다.

Over the course of the 10-hour mission, the F-35Bs, B-1B bombers assembled in mid-air, joined the U.S. and ROKAF aircraft based in Korea, then flew over the Korean Peninsula to practice attack procedures, releasing live and inert weapons onto targets at the Pilsung Range training area in South Korea before returning to their respective home bases.

10시간 임무수행동안, F-35B 및 B-1B폭격기들은 상공에서 집결하여 한,미 공군 전투기들과 합류하였으며, 한반도 영공을 지나 필승 사격장에서 공격 절차를 연습하는 차원에서 실탄과 연습탄 투하하여 표적을 타격하는 폭탄 투하 연습을 실시 한 후 각 국 본 기지로 복귀하였다.
