CAMP HUMPHREYS, PYEONGTAEK, Republic of Korea —
General Robert B. "Abe" Abrams, commander, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea, approved phase one of the Republic of Korea’s "Peace Trail" project at Goseong in Gangwaon Province today.
"United Nations Command (UNC) and the ROK government have demonstrated superb teamwork, collaboration, and coordination throughout the entire ‘peace trail’ process and will continue to do so," said Abrams. "The ROK military has worked extremely long hours to ensure the success of this very important initiative, while assuring visitors their safety remains paramount."
The Goseong-area trail is one of three new proposed "peace trail" sites and is located on the east side of the Korean peninsula and in the ROK 22nd Infantry Division’s area. It will join the other 13 existing UNC-approved Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) educational sites as a location for inter-Korean exchanges and learning opportunities.
