Seventeen USFK-affiliated Individuals Confirmed with COVID-19

PA-001-21 | Sept. 8, 2021

Seventeen USFK-affiliated individuals tested positive for COVID-19 between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6.

Two service members, one stationed at Camp Hovey and one stationed at Camp Casey, two family members and one Korean National contractor stationed at United States Army Garrison – Humphreys, and one Korean National employee stationed at USAG – Yongsan tested positive between Sept. 1 and 6 after developing symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

Two service members stationed at USAG – Humphreys, one service member, one DoD civilian and two family members stationed at USAG – Daegu, and one family member stationed at Osan Air Base tested positive between Sept. 2 and 4 after providing a screening sample as part of USFK’s contact tracing for their direct contact with individuals who recently tested positive for the virus.

Two service members on a temporary duty to USFK and one service member stationed at Osan Air Base tested positive between Aug. 31 and Sept. 5 after providing a testing sample required to depart the peninsula for international travel.

One service member stationed at USAG – Humphreys tested positive on Aug. 31 after providing a screening sample prior to medical treatment.

All individuals are currently in isolation at a facility designated for confirmed COVID-19 cases at USAG – Humphreys, Osan Air Base, a U.S. military base off-peninsula or a Korean medical facility.

KDCA, local government public health and USFK health professionals are actively conducting contact tracing to determine whether anyone else may have been exposed to these individuals and to identify and ensure all known on-post and off-post facilities visited by the individuals are thoroughly cleaned.

USFK remains at a high level of readiness with more than 80% of its affiliated community vaccinated, and less than 1% of its active duty service members currently confirmed positive with COVID-19.

USFK continues to maintain a robust combined defense posture to protect the Republic of Korea against any threat or adversary, while maintaining prudent preventive measures to protect the force.
