USAG HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea —
Six USFK-affiliated individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 on Jan. 14.
One USFK service member, two Department of Defense contractors, a DoD dependent and two civilian employees each tested positive for COVID-19 following their direct contact with individuals who previously tested positive for the virus.
All six individuals either work on or have access to United States Army Garrison -Yongsan; the service member also resides and works on United States Army Garrison - Humphreys.
“A COVID-19 cluster on USAG-Yongsan has now effected USAG-Humphreys,” said Gen. Robert B. “Abe” Abrams, USFK Commander. “Out of an abundance of caution to protect the force, we have enacted several measures at both installations to ensure we have the necessary time and resources available to complete our thorough contact tracing.”
Five of the individuals are either currently in isolation at a USAG-Humphreys facility designated for confirmed COVID-19 cases, or at their off-installation residences while awaiting transportation to isolation; one of the civilian employees is Korean and will be isolated in a Korean medical facility.
KDCA and USFK health professionals are actively conducting contact tracing to determine whether anyone else may have been exposed, and to identify and ensure all known on-post and off-post facilities visited by the individuals are thoroughly cleaned.
Despite the confirmed cases, USFK remains at a high level of readiness with less than 1% of its active duty service members currently confirmed positive with COVID-19.
USFK continues to maintain a robust combined defense posture to protect the Republic of Korea against any threat or adversary while maintaining prudent preventive measures to protect the force.
“Our highest priority right now is to identify all individuals who’ve been in any form of contact with our confirmed cases, and prevent any further spread of the virus,” said Abrams.
