Raul E. Escribano, a native of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, was recently promoted to the rank of Major General in the United States Army. A 33-year active duty Military Intelligence officer, Escribano most recently served as the Director of Intelligence J2, United States Forces Korea, in Yongsan-Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Escribano was commissioned into the United States Army in 1985 from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. He later attended Central Michigan University and earned a Master's degree in Administration. In 2008, he received a Master's degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
Escribano's initial assignment was at Lee Barracks, Mainz, Germany, and since then has held a variety of command and staff positions at multiple levels. He was recently selected to become the next Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence in NATO HQs, Brussels, Belgium.
His deployments include Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Iraq; Operation Iraqi Freedom in Baghdad, Iraq; and Operation Enduring Freedom in Kabul, Afghanistan. He is married to Gretchen Miranda-Velez. Their daughter, Shaina Escribano-Miranda is a Captain in the Army Nurse Corps.
