YONGSAN GARRISON, SEOUL, South Korea –
Republic of Korea Army Maj. Gen. Seo Hyung-Seok was appointed the
senior member of the United Nations Command Military Armistice
Commission Nov. 12, replacing Lt. Gen. Chun In-Bum, who assumed command
of the ROK Special Warfare Command.
In addition to his duties as UNCMAC senior member, Seo will serve as
the chief of staff of the Ground Component Command and the deputy chief
of staff of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command.
Seo was commissioned in the 37th class of the Korea Military Academy and commanded the ROK 1st
Infantry Division and the ROK Army Headquarters Education Training
Director. He most recently served as the chief of staff for Third ROK
Army.
ROK military leaders have served as senior members of the UNC Military
Armistice Commission since March 25, 1991, when U.S. Army Gen. Robert W.
RisCassi appointed ROK Maj. Gen. Hwang Won-tak to the position.
