USFK Commander's Message about the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine

By USFK Public Affairs

From the USFK Commander

After a comprehensive review of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an emergency use authorization, meaning it’s effective for immediate use.

Over the next few days, USFK will begin to receive and administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to combat the COVID-19 virus to further protect the force and our community.

While the initial inoculations will be limited to frontline health care workers and first responders - in accordance with DOD directives and guidelines - USFK will receive additional shipments of the vaccine to inoculate all eligible USFK-affiliated community members as production and distribution increases. I ask that our community remains patient and flexible as the additional shipments arrive.

History has proven that vaccines are a proven measure to better protect you and others from viruses. Similar to our USFK core tenets and HPCON protective measures, this is another tool to protect the force, community and strengthen our “Fight Tonight” readiness posture.

While the Moderna vaccine is completely voluntary under an EUA - I plan to take it when given the opportunity - I ask our USFK community to strongly consider taking it as well. I want you to make an informed decision for you and your family regarding the vaccine, and ask that you consult your primary care manager to learn more about the benefits of receiving the vaccine.

I am extremely proud of USFK’s commitment to combating the COVID-19 virus, and our record speaks for itself: we have done a remarkable job in preventing the virus’ spread within our formations, installations and communities.

While news of USFK receiving the vaccine is exceptional, we must remain vigilant, and adhere to our core tenets and HPCON measures, as well as ROK government and local directives, that have proven an effective mitigation measure against the spread of the virus.

We must protect the force to protect the mission.

General, USA
