Two USFK-Affiliated Individuals Confirmed with COVID-19

U.S. Forces Korea

Two USFK-affiliated individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct 7.

The first patient, a USFK Soldier stationed at Camp Humphreys, tested positive after visiting with immediate family members who reside in Yeocheon and tested positive following the Soldier’s visit.

The service member adhered to all USFK core tenets, remained within HPCON Bravo areas during his travels and immediately sought testing after learning of his family testing positive for the virus.

“As a testament to the service member’s proactive actions, we were able to quickly identify and alert others who were in direct contact with the Soldier so they could immediately follow our quarantine procedures,” said Maj. Gen. Stephen Williams, USFK Chief of Staff.

The Soldier is currently in isolation at a Camp Humphreys barracks designated to house confirmed COVID-19 cases, contact tracing is complete and USFK health professionals have thoroughly cleaned all known Camp Humphreys facilities visited by the Soldier.

The second patient, a retiree who resides in Seoul and has access to all USFK installations, last visited Osan Air Base and Yongsan Garrison on Oct. 5; he last visited Camp Humphreys on Sept. 29 prior to being contagious.

The retiree is currently in isolation at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Seoul.

KDCA and USFK are actively conducting contact tracing to determine whether anyone else or other locations may have been exposed or visited, and USFK is conducting thorough cleaning now of known locations visited on Osan AB and Yongsan Garrison.

Despite the two confirmed cases, USFK remains at a high level of readiness with less than 1% of its force currently confirmed positive with COVID-19.

USFK continues to maintain a robust combined defense posture to protect the Republic of Korea against any threat or adversary while maintaining prudent preventive measures to protect the force.
