MND and UNC repatriate Korean War remains

Ministry of National Defense and United Nations Command hosted a repatriation ceremony at U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, Republic of Korea, June 22.

 

Major General Michael A. Minihan, Chief of Staff of UNC, Maj. Gen. Ro, Hui-Jun, director general of Mobilization Planning Bureau ROK Ministry of Defense, Dr. John E. Byrd representative of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and Gen. Vincent K. Brooks commander of UNC, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea attended the ceremony to bid a fallen hero who fought during the Korean War.

 

The remains belonging to a UNC soldier were recovered by ROK Ministry of National Defense Agency for Killed In Action Recovery and Identification and these remains were repatriated today.

 

“In this short and powerful moment we reflect on the service and sacrifice that preceded us,” said Minihan. “The service of those that forged eternal bonds with the Republic of Korea with blood and courage and sacrifice, and we are grateful”

 

After the repatriation ceremony, remains will be transferred to DPAA for further identification and will be laid to rest.

 

“We promise that the Republic of Korea and the United States will continue to work together to recover the fallen heroes who are waiting to return,” said Ro.
