SEOUL, Republic of Korea (March 24, 2015) – Rear Adm. Lisa Franchetti, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea, burns incense in front of a memorial dedicated to the Korean sailors lost during the sinking of ROKS Cheonan (PCC-772) during a memorial service at the CNFK headquarters in Seoul. The 1,200-ton ship broke into two from an explosion, suspected to be from a North Korean torpedo, on March 26, 2010, while operating in waters west of the Korean peninsula. Of the 104-man crew, 46 Korean Sailors perished in the incident, along with a ROK navy diver who lost his life during the subsequent rescue efforts. Work visits with U.S. troops in South Korea
Ground was broken for the new "downtown" area, featuring a new Exchange, commissary and bowling center among other facilities, at Camp Humphreys, South Korea, Aug. 11, 2014. The project will also see the construction of an auditorium, chapel, chapel family life center, an arts & crafts center, recreation center, plaza and parking. When completed, these facilities will provide retail shopping, groceries, entertainment, recreation and religious services.
