Eighth Army Statement on Helicopter Crash

YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea – An AH-64 Apache helicopter with 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea/U.S. Combined Division crashed during a routine training mission this evening at approximately 6:30pm nearly fifty miles east of Camp Humphreys, killing both pilots.

The identities of the two pilots will be withheld pending next of kin notification.

"We offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the families of the Soldiers involved in this tragic incident,” said Lt. Col. Mark Gillespie, the deputy commander of 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade. “Our first priority is to provide their families with the support they need during this difficult time."

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
