U.S. Forces Korea Hosts 'Tachyon Echo' Exercise to Strengthen Multinational Coordination and Regional Defense

U.S. Forces Korea hosts Tachyon Echo, a Tri-Command Technical Effects Tabletop Exercise with participants from United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command (CFC), and U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) Command. This latest iteration builds on momentum from previous exercises and further develops the Tri-Command's ability to integrate combined-joint all-domain operations (CJADO) capabilities in support of regional threat deterrence and readiness.

Tachyon Echo is a multilateral tabletop exercise and workshop designed to streamline coordination of non-kinetic capabilities and non-lethal effects to improve the technical effects process. This process allows commanders to request support beyond their own capabilities and connect those requests with multinational partners across the Tri-Command. This helps ensure all effects are coordinated, approved and delivered through a unified, all-domain approach.

"Tachyon echo is about understanding and refining non-kinetic coordination and non-lethal effects in support of the defense of the Republic of Korea," said Maj. Patrick Neky, information operations targeting and plans officer for USKF and CFC. "By training non-lethal and non-kinetic capabilities, we are building both flexibility and readiness to respond to any potential crisis with our allies and partners in the INDOPACOM region."

Participants work through realistic scenarios emphasizing interoperability, information sharing and synchronization, and timely decision making among multinational partners. The training helps ensure capabilities are delivered when and where they are needed.

"Tabletop exercises provide a good opportunity to walk through specific processes with our allies and partners," added Neky. "By going step-by-step through coordination, we can understand all parties' roles and responsibilities while potentially identifying gaps within non-kinetic and non-lethal processes."

As the security environment continues to evolve, the Tri-Command continues to expand refine, and advance integrated approaches like Technical Effects to sustain credible deterrence and promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and across the region.
