Good evening. It is a privilege to address this remarkable group of international and Korean university students tonight.
June 25th carries profound meaning on this peninsula. Seventy-six years ago today, a war began here that tested the will of free nations. What followed was one of history’s most remarkable displays of collective resolve.
The world saw the original form of multilateral cooperation as 22 nations answered the call. They acted out of a profound sense of duty to defend a people they had never met. The peace and stability we enjoy today was paid for in their shared blood and treasure. That same collective resolve persists today. The continued presence of U.S. Forces and United Nations Command Member States' Forces on this peninsula is the living proof of this unbreakable bond, and tomorrow you will see it firsthand.
People-to-People International understands that alliances are not just institutions; true alliances are built between people. The friendships you form over these two days are exactly the kind of foundation that makes this partnership endure.
You are the next generation of leaders, diplomats, professionals, and citizens who will shape the future of this region. I hope this experience gives you a clearer picture of the security environment we operate in together, a deeper appreciation for those who came before you, and a genuine connection to the people standing beside you right now.
On behalf of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and United States Forces Korea, welcome to the alliance.
