United Nations Command conducts Armistice enforcement operations in Han River Estuary

YONGSAN GARRISON, Seoul, Republic of Korea —

Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, United Nations Command commander, in accordance with his responsibilities under the Armistice Agreement, authorized a UNC operation to enforce restrictions on fishermen in the Han River Estuary beginning June 10.

This operation is to be executed by Republic of Korea forces (Republic of Korea is a member of UNC), along with representatives of the United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission.

Gen. Brooks approved this operation to begin on June 10 because, he said, “United Nations Command takes its responsibility to maintain the Armistice very seriously. We had a responsibility to act and we are doing that.”

유엔사, 한강하구지역에서 정전협정 집행 작전 실시

대한민국, 서울 용산기지 –유엔군사령관 빈센트 케이. 브룩스 (Vincent K. Brooks) 대장은 정전협정에 의거 6월10일 한강하구지역에서 어선들의 활동을 통제하는 유엔사 활동을 승인하였다.

유엔사의 일원인 대한민국이 유엔사 군사정전위 대표단과 함께 이 작전을 시행한다.

브룩스대장은 6월 10일 시작되는 이 작전을 승인하면서 그 이유에 대해 “유엔사는 정전협정을 유지해야하는 책임을 매우 심각하게 받아들이고 있으며, 이에 따라 이 작전을 실행하는 것” 이라고 밝혔다.
