The Department of Defense today announced its findings for the DOD Comprehensive Review which assessed DoD laboratory procedures, processes, and protocols associated with inactivating Bacillus anthracis.

The DOD Comprehensive Review is not specific to USFK or Korea. USFK continues to work with our ROK Alliance partners on the review of our biological defense programs to ensure that these programs continue in a safe and effective manner to protect the Korean people and our militaries.

As an Alliance, the ROK and U.S. have established the framework for a bilateral joint working group on U.S. - ROK biological defense cooperation. 

“Alliance biological defense programs are designed to enhance Alliance readiness and defensive capabilities in the face of a very real and significant biological threat,” Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, U.S. Forces Korea commander. “The establishment of the ROK – U.S. Alliance’s Biological Defense Cooperation Joint Working Group will ensure continued cooperation on biological defense programs.”

The joint working group will also incorporate information from the Department of Defense Laboratory Review to ensure our mutual ability to respond to a biological attack and will continue to conduct bilateral meetings regularly to coordinate our mutual biological defense capabilities.

국방부 실험 종합 결과 발표

용산 기지, 서울, 대한민국 -- 미 국방부는 오늘, 탄저균 비활성화와 관련한 실험 절차, 과정, 규정을 평가한 국방부 실험 종합 결과 보고서를 발표하였다.

미 국방부 종합 보고서는 주한미군사령부 혹은 한국만을 특정하여 작성된 보고서는 아니다. 주한미군사령부는 한측 파트너들과 함께, 지속적으로 양국의 생물 방어 프로그램을 검토하고 있으며, 이러한 프로그램들은, 한국 시민과, 양국의 군병력을 보호하고, 또한 안전하고 효율적인 방법으로 이루어지는 것을 보장하는 것이다.

한미 동맹 양국은, 한미공동의 생물 방어 협조를 위한, 쌍무적인 합동 실무단 체계를 확립했다.

유엔군사령부/한미연합군사령부/주한미군사령부 사령관 커티스 M. 스카파로티 (Curtis M. Scaparrotti)장군은 “동맹의 생물 방어 프로그램은, 대단히 실제적이고 심각한 생물 위협에 직면한, 양국 군의 준비태세와 방어 역량을 증강하도록 고안되었다. 한미 동맹의 생물 방어 협력 합동 실무단은, 생물 방어 프로그램의 지속적인 협의를 보장할 것이다.”라고 밝혔다.

본 합동 실무단은 미 국방부 실험실 보고서의 정보들을 포함, 생물 공격에 대응할 수 있는 양국 상호간의 능력을 보장하면서, 상호 생물 방어 역량을 협력하기 위해 정례적으로 공동 회의를 실시할 것이다.
