Today, U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) notified Korean National employees that, at this time, there will be no personnel actions due to funding shortfalls and they will continue to receive pay. 

USFK is working closely with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Republic of Korea Ministry of National Defense and is confident that a funding solution will be found. 

The readiness of our forces is crucial for defense of the Republic of Korea and Korean National workers are a key component of sustaining force readiness. Under our bi-lateral agreements the ROK government provides up to 71% of the funding necessary for the compensation of USFK’s Korean National employees while the U.S. government provides the remaining amount. Although the ROK government may not provide its normal contribution, we have decided to provide interim funding from U.S. sources in order to maintain operational readiness and keep faith with the Korean National work force. Korean National employees are an important part of the USFK team and play a key role in maintaining operations, and in the combined defense of the Republic of Korea. 

USFK will continue to support the ROKG’s efforts to complete the ratification of the Special Measures Agreement. 

USFK is proud of our Korean employees and the vital contributions they make to the ROK combined defense.  USFK is hopeful that this issue will be resolved quickly for the sake of the Korean National employees and their families.

주한미군, 한국인 근로자 급여 지급에 변동없다고 밝혀

주한미군은 오늘 한국인 근로자에게 예산 부족으로 인한 인사조치는 없으며 급여는 지속적으로 지급될 것이라고  통보했다. 주한미군은 한미 국방부와 긴밀히 조율하여 합의점을 찾을 것이라고 밝혔다.

미군의 대비태세는 대한민국 방어에 필수적이며 한국인 근로자는 미군 대비태세 유지에 중요한 역할을 한다. 양자간의 합의를 통해, 대한민국 정부는 한국인 근로자 인건비 예산의 71%까지 제공하며 나머지 금액은 미국 정부가 충당한다.

대한민국 정부가 정상적인 기여를 하지 않을 수도 있지만 우리는 작전태세를 유지하고 한국인 근로자와의 신의를 지키기 위하여 미국으로부터 임시 자금을 공급받기로 하였다. 한국인 근로자는 주한미군에 중요한 한 부분이며 작전 유지와 대한민국의 연합 방어에 주요한 역할을 수행하고 있다.

주한미군은 특별협정 비준을 완료하기 위한 한국 정부의 노력을 계속하여 지지할 것이다.

주한미군은 한국인 근로자와 그들의 대한민국 연합 방어에 없어서는 안될 헌신에 대한 자부심을 가지고 있다. 주한미군은 한국인 근로자와 그들의 가족을 위하여 해당 문제가 빨리 해결되기를 바란다.
