During a ceremony today from USFK headquarters at Camp Humphreys, UNC/CFC/USFK commander Gen. Paul LaCamera announced the winners of a peninsula-wide competition to recognize Republic of Korea and U.S. organizations and individuals who make an exceptional impact on the ROK-U.S. alliance.
유엔사·연합사·주한미군 사령관 폴 라캐머라 대장은 오늘 캠프 험프리스 주한미군사령부에서 열린 행사에서 한미동맹 증진에 기여한 개인 및 단체들에 대한 수상자들을 발표하였고, 이들은 국내에 주둔하고 있는 모든 미군부대를 대상으로 한 경쟁에서 선발된 분들이다.
The Good Neighbor Program is USFK’s primary community relations program designed to bring U.S. service members, DoD Civilians and Families closer together with our host nation. Since 2003, USFK has presented 214 Good Neighbor awards to those who truly serve as ambassadors between the two nations.
좋은이웃 프로그램은 미군 및 미군무원, 그리고 가족들이 우리의 주둔국과 함께 더 친밀한 관계를 가질 수 있도록 고안된 주한미군의 지역사회관계 프로그램이다. 주한미군은 2003 년부터 한미간 외교사절 역할을 해 온 214 명의 개인 또는 단체에게 좋은이웃상을 수여하였다.
USFK received 22 nominees for this year’s Good Neighbor awards ceremony in six diverse categories. Winners are selected by an impartial panel who vote on those assessed as the most impactful in improving ROK-U.S. relations through their community service efforts.
주한미군사령부는 올해 좋은이웃상 후보로 6 개 부문에서 22 명의 명단을 추천 받아 심사위는 지역사회 봉사활동으로 한미관계 증진에 가장 큰 기여를 하였다고 판단한 수상자들을 투표로 선정하였다.
Because of the ongoing pandemic, the ceremony was held virtually, with awards presented at USFK, Eighth Army, and Kunsan Air Base near Gunsan city. Each awardee received a Scroll of Appreciation signed by Gen. LaCamera.
코로나 팬데믹으로, 시상식은 주한미군사령부, 미 8 군사령부 및 군산 미공군기지에서 화상으로 진행되었으며, 수상자들은 라캐머라 사령관이 서명한 감사패를 수여받았다.

Good Neighbor Award–Individual (Korean): Mr. Jang Gyu Yong, presented by Brig. Gen. Joseph D’Costa, Deputy Commanding General, Sustainment, 8th Army
Recognizing U.S. and ROK service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the Korean War, Jang hosted a ceremony to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the ‘8th of July’ Battle of Cheonan, drawing participants from the ROK and U.S. militaries, local police officers, and local government officials.
좋은 이웃상 – 개인(한국인): 장규용, 미 8 군 지원부사령관 조셉 다코스타 준장 수여
장규용씨는 한미 장병 및 지역 경찰, 지자체 관계자 등이 참석한 가운데 천안 7.8 전투 71 주년 기념식을 주관, 6.25 한국전쟁때 희생된 한미 장병들을 추모하였다.
Good Neighbor Award–Organization (Korean): Korean Military Gold Members Organization, presented by Brig. Gen. D’Costa
The Daegu-based organization brought U.S. service members and South Koreans together by coordinating cultural exchange programs, and sponsoring maintenance projects to help elderly Koreans living in the Waegwan region.
좋은 이웃상 – 단체(한국인): 밀리터리 골드 멤버, 조셉 다코스타 준장 수여
대구에 본부를 둔 단체로 문화 교류 프로그램 조율 및 왜관 지역에 거주하는 한국인 노인들을 돕는 정비 사업을 통해 미군 병사들과 한국인들의 후호를 증진시켰다.
Ambassador for the Alliance Good Neighbor Award–Unit (U.S.): U.S. Air Force 8th Forces Support Squadron, Kunsan AB, Gunsan City, presented by Col. John Gallemore, Commander, 8th Fighter Wing
The 300 members of the Kunsan-based squadron are dedicated to strengthening ROK-U.S. relations by raising funds, and facilitating hundreds of tours across the peninsula so U.S. service members and civilian personnel can better assimilate into Korean culture.
좋은이웃 외교사절상 – 부대 (미군): 주한미공군 8 병력지원대대, 군산, 제 8 전투비행단 사령관 존 갤리모어 대령 수여
군산에 위치한 이 대대의 300 명의 부대원들은 미군 및 민간인들이 한국 문화에 더 잘 적응할 수 있도록 기금을 모으고 수백건의 국내 여행을 기획하여 한미 관계 강화에 헌신하였다.
Ambassador for the Alliance Good Neighbor Award–Individual (U.S.): Cpl. Devon Z. Guerrero, U.S. Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Camp Mujuk, Pohang, presented by Gen. LaCamera
Volunteers off duty hours to teach English at a local off-installation school in Pohang, hosted 40 South Korean children at Camp Mujuk for a US. Style “Halloween” event and raised funds to donate gifts to a local school.
좋은이웃 외교사절상 – 개인(미국인): 데본 구에레로 상병, 미국 해병대 태평양사령부 소속 캠프 무적, 포항, 라캐머라 사령관 수여
포항에 있는 기지밖 학교에서 근무 외 시간에 영어 지도 봉사활동 및 캠프무적에서 진행된 미국 “할로윈” 행사에 40 명의 한국 어린이 초대, 또한 지역 학교에 선물을 기부하기 위하여 기금 모금활동을 하였다.
Family Member Ambassador for the Alliance Good Neighbor Award (U.S.): Ms. SonMi Greene, U.S. Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Camp Mujuk, Pohang, presented by Gen. LaCamera
Volunteered over 200 hours to teach English language courses to 95 children, ages 5-7, at a local off installation school, and at a local foster home established during the Korean War to shelter orphaned children.
좋은이웃 가족구성원외교사절상 (미국인): 선미 그린, 미국 해병대 태평양사령부 소속 캠프 무적, 포항, 라캐머라 사령관 수여
기지 밖 학교에서 5~7 세 아동 95 명을 대상으로 200 시간 이상 영어지도 및 한국전쟁 당시 고아를 수용하기 위해 설립된 지역사회 보육학교에서 영어 지도를 하였다.
Non-DOD Civilian Good Neighbor Award (U.S.), Pyeongtaek, South Korea: Prince Hall Noble Shriners #215, presented by Gen. LaCamera
This Pyeongtaek-based organization is focused on making local communities a better place to live for both U.S. service members, and Korean citizens, by supporting orphanages, hospitals, homeless shelters, and animal shelters throughout South Korea.
비국방부문 좋은이웃상 (미국): 프린스 홀 노블 슈라이너즈 #215, 라캐머라 사령관 수여
평택에 위치한 이 단체는 국내 고아원, 병원, 노숙자 보호소, 동물 보호소를 지원하여 미군장병은 물론 한국시민 모두가 살기좋은 지역사회 조성에 힘썼다.
All of these individual and organizations fostered positive relations between the U.S. Forces Korea and Korean communities. United States Forces Korea is the premier Joint Force – Well led, disciplined, trained and ready to Fight Tonight and win. USFK has a robust community engagements program which facilitates more than 900 events with our host nation each year.
모든 개인 및 단체 수상자들은 주한미군과 지역사회간 긍정적인 관계 형성에 크게 기여하였다. 주한미군은 잘 지도되고, 훈련되고, 오늘밤 싸워 이길 준비가 되어 있는 최고의 합동군이다. 주한미군은 대한민국과 매년 900 회 이상의 행사를 가지며 굳건한 지역사회 참여 프로그램을 운영하고있다.
