Twenty-Three USFK-affiliated Individuals Confirmed with COVID-19

PA-001-21 | July 19, 2021

Twenty-Three USFK-affiliated individuals tested positive for COVID-19 between July 9 and 17.

Seventeen individuals, three service members stationed at Osan Air Base, eight service members stationed at Kunsan Air Base, one service member and two Korean National contractors stationed at Camp Casey, one DoD civilian and two contractors stationed at K-16, tested positive between July 9 and 17 after developing symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

Six service members, three stationed at Camp Casey and three stationed at Kunsan Air Base, tested positive on July 14 and 15 after providing a screening sample during USFK’s contact tracing following their direct contact with individuals who recently tested positive for the virus.

All individuals are currently in isolation at a facility designated for confirmed COVID-19 cases at United States Army Garrison – Humphreys, Osan Air Base or a Republic of Korea isolation facility.

KDCA and USFK health professionals are actively conducting contact tracing to determine whether anyone else may have been exposed to these individuals and to identify and ensure all known on-post and off-post facilities visited by the individuals are thoroughly cleaned.

Despite the recent confirmed cases, USFK remains at a high level of readiness with more than 80% of its affiliated community vaccinated, and less than 1% of its active duty service members currently confirmed positive with COVID-19.

USFK continues to maintain a robust combined defense posture to protect the Republic of Korea against any threat or adversary, while maintaining prudent preventive measures to protect the force.
