SEOUL, Republic of Korea —
Gen. Robert B. “Abe” Abrams, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, and United States Forces Korea Commander, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Connie Abrams, offered their respect to those who gave their lives in the defense of the Republic of Korea by placing a wreath and burning incense at the Seoul National Cemetery today.
“We are honored to have visited the Seoul National Cemetery today, one final time before we depart South Korea,” said Gen. Abrams. “This was a solemn reminder that freedom is not free and those that came before us made the ultimate sacrifice to enable the ROK to become the thriving democracy and economic power it is today. I offer my deepest respect to those who died while serving and protecting the ROK.”
Later, the ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff honored Gen. Abrams by hosting an Honor Guard Cordon, recognizing his tireless efforts and commitment to maintaining a robust combined defense posture and “Fight Tonight” readiness of the Korean peninsula.
“As I have stated many times, I view my command in Korea as the honor and privilege of my military career, and couldn’t have asked for a better farewell than Gen. Won In-choul hosting me today for an honor guard ceremony,” said Abrams.
