One USFK Service Member Confirmed with COVID-19

PA-001-20 | Dec. 2, 2020

A USFK soldier stationed at Camp Casey tested positive for COVID-19 today.

The soldier has been transferred to an isolation facility designated for confirmed COVID-19 cases at United States Army Garrison – Humphreys.

Contact tracing is ongoing, and USFK medical teams are actively ensuring that all known Camp Casey facilities visited by the Soldier are thoroughly cleaned.

USFK maintains one of the most rigorous COVID-19 programs across the Department of Defense, and globally, to include South Korea by requiring a 14-day quarantine for all arriving personnel. USFK also has a robust surveillance testing program where more than 5,000 tests have been completed peninsula-wide without a single positive case until today, which is a testament to the effectiveness and importance of surveillance testing in the prevention of undetected mass spreading.  USFK attributes this remarkable level of success to its 58,000 USFK-affiliated members adhering to core tenets and HPCON measures.

Despite this confirmed case, USFK remains at a high level of readiness with less than 1% of its force currently confirmed positive with COVID-19.

USFK continues to maintain a robust combined defense posture to protect the Republic of Korea against any threat or adversary while maintaining prudent preventive measures to protect the force.
