Two USFK Service Members Confirmed with COVID-19

PA-001-20 | May 30, 2020

Two newly assigned USFK service members tested positive for COVID-19 upon their arrival to South Korea from the United States on a U.S. government chartered flight.

They arrived at Osan Air Base on May 27, and were in mandatory quarantine at Camp Humphreys quarantine barracks while awaiting for the results of their COVID-19 test to return.

Since testing positive, the soldiers have been moved to Camp Humphreys’ isolation barracks designated for confirmed COVID-19 cases.

USFK health professionals determined there was limited contact tracing due to the soldiers being immediately quarantined, and conducted thorough cleaning of the plane, bus and their quarantine rooms.

As a testament to USFK’s aggressive preventative control measures to stop the virus’ spread, any USFK-affiliated individual arriving in South Korea from overseas will be tested for COVID-19 and then quarantined for 14 days.

USFK will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Despite the confirmed cases, USFK remains at a high level of readiness with only two active duty service members who are currently confirmed positive for COVID-19 as all other USFK-affiliated persons have recovered from COVID-19.

USFK continues to maintain a robust combined defense posture to protect the Republic of Korea against any threat or adversary while maintaining prudent preventive measures to protect the force.
