USFK Service Member Confirmed with COVID-19

PA-001-20 | May 8, 2020

A newly assigned USFK service member tested positive for COVID-19 upon his arrival to South Korea from Japan on a U.S. government chartered flight.

He arrived at Osan Air Base on May 6, and was in mandatory quarantine at Camp Humphreys quarantine barracks while awaiting for the results of his COVID-19 to return.

Since testing positive, the sailor has been moved to Camp Humphreys’ isolation barracks designated for confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Any USFK-affiliated individual arriving in South Korea from overseas will quarantine for 14 days and will be tested for COVID-19 upon entering quarantine.

USFK health professionals determined that limited contact tracing and thorough cleaning of the plane, bus taking him from Osan AB to Camp Humphreys and room were necessary due to the sailor being immediately tested and quarantined.

The above policy stands as a testament to USFK’s aggressive preventative control measures to stop the virus’ spread within USFK.

Additional information will be provided by USFK as it becomes available.

Despite the confirmed cases, USFK remains at a high level of readiness with only three active duty service members who’ve tested positive - and one who’s since recovered - for COVID-19, and continues to maintain a robust combined defense posture to protect the Republic of Korea against any threat or adversary while maintaining prudent preventive measures to protect the force.
