With the World Health Organization increasing its world-wide warning to “very high,” the U.S. Department of State declaring a global level 4 travel advisory - do not travel - and the increased exposure potential of COVID-19 in proximity to USFK installations, the USFK commander exercised his authority to declare a Public Health Emergency today.

세계보건기구가 전 세계 위험 수위를 ‘매우 높음’으로 격상하고, 미 국무부의 전 세계 여행을 금지하는 4단계 경보 선포 및 주한미군 시설 인접 지역으로 코로나 바이러스 노출 가능성이 높아지면서 주한미군 사령관은 오늘 공중보건 비상사태를 선포하였다.

The PHE will remain in effect through April 23, unless it is renewed or terminated sooner by the USFK commander.

공중보건 비상사태는 주한미군 사령관이 연장하거나 더 빨리 종료하지 않는 한 4월 23일 까지 효력을 유지한다.

“The protection of the force remains our number one priority, and we continually monitor and assess the conditions of COVID-19 in South Korea and its presence near USFK installations,” said Gen. Robert B. "Abe” Abrams, USFK Commander. “In order to ensure I possess the necessary authorities needed to enforce compliance and protect the force, I have declared a Public Health Emergency for all U.S. commands and military installations in the Republic of Korea.”

주한미군 사령관 로버트 “에이브” 에이브람스 대장은 “군대의 보호가 우리의 최우선 과제이며, 우리는 대한민국 및 주한미군 주변지역의 코로나바이러스 상황을 지속적으로 감시하고 평가한다"라고 밝히고 “준수사항을 집행하고 군대를 보호하기 위해 필요한 권한을 행사하기 위하여, 저는 한국에 있는 모든 미군 사령부와 군사시설에 대해 공중 보건 비상사태를 선포하였다,”고 덧붙였다.

Gen. Abrams’ decision to declare a PHE does not change the current health protection condition, preventive mitigation measures being taken, or indicate an increased risk level on USFK installations.

에이브람스 사령관의 공중보건 비상사태 선포 결정은 현재 시행하고 있는 건강 보호 조건이나 예방 완화 조치의 변화, 또는 주한미군 시설의 위험 단계 격상을 의미하지는 않는다.

“Minus a few incidents, we have made significant progress in our containment efforts to keep the virus out of our installations and formations,” said Abrams. “Declaring a Public Health Emergency is a prudent decision to ensure we remain disciplined and vigilant while fighting complacency. Now is not the time to lower our guard. Everyone must do their part to protect the force, stop the spread and kill the virus.”

에이브람스 사령관은 “몇 가지 사건을 제외하고는, 우리는 코로나바이러스로 부터  우리의 시설과 군을 보호하기 위한 봉쇄 노력에 큰 진전을 이루었다”라고 밝히고 “공중보건 비상사태 선포는 우리가 안일함과 싸우면서도 절제되고 경계심을 잃지 않도록 하기 위한 신중한 결정입니다. 지금은 경계를 낮출 때가 아닙니다. 우리 개개인은 군대를 보호하고, 코로나바이러스의 확산을 막고, 코로나바이러스를 무찌르기 위하여 제 몫을 다해야 한다,”라고 덧붙였다.

USFK continues to follow existing international, U.S., and local guidance and procedures to protect and safeguard our workforce and families. Expansion of health protection and security measures have provided effective ways to lessen risks from COVID-19. USFK will continually assess its preventative measures and procedures to protect USFK personnel and communities.

주한미군은 우리 직원들과 가족을 보호하기 위해 기존의 국제, 미국, 그리고 현지 지도와 절차를 계속 준수하고 있다. 건강보호 및 보안 조치의 확대로 코로나바이러스로 부터 위험을 감소시키는  효과적인 방법을 제공하였다. 주한미군은 주한미군 인원과 지역사회를 보호하기 위한 예방 조치와 절차를 지속적으로 평가할 것이다.

“We remain committed to doing everything we can to keep everyone safe while balancing the overall health, safety and protection of the force with mission accomplishment,” said Abrams. “We must protect the force to protect the mission.”

에이브람스 사령관은 “우리는 전반적인 건강, 안전, 그리고 병력 보호와 임무수행의 균형을 맞추며 모든 사람을 안전하게 지키는데 최선을 다하고 있다,”라고 밝히며 “우리는 임무를 보호하기 위하여 군을 지켜야 한다,”라고 덧붙였다.

USFK remains committed to providing a robust combined defense posture while maintaining “Fight Tonight” readiness to protect the Republic of Korea against any adversary or threat.

주한미군은 적이나 위협으로부터 대한민국 방어를 위한 “오늘밤 전투 (Fight Tonight)” 준비태세를 유지하면서 강력한 연합 방위태세를 제공하는데 전념하고 있다.
