United States Forces Korea personnel and assets are supporting efforts to contain and extinguish wild fires today in Gangwon province, Republic of Korea, located 130 miles northeast of Seoul.

대한민국, 평택 캠프 험프리즈 –주한미군은 강원도 지역의 산불 진화 작업을 위해 병력과 자산을 지원하고 있다.

In coordination with the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff and Combined Forces Command, USFK is supporting firefighting efforts with two UH-60 Black Hawks. The Black Hawks have specially-designed aircraft buckets, called a Bambi Buckets, to scoop water and drop it on designated areas. Nine personnel including pilots and crew chiefs from 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade are supporting the effort. Additional assets are on standby if needed.

한미연합사 및 대한민국 합참과 긴밀한 협조아래, 주한미군사령부는 두대의 UHM-60 헬기를 동원하여 산불진화 작업을 지원하고 있다. 지원된 UH-60헬기는 ‘밤비버켓(물을 퍼올려 지정된 지역에 떨어뜨리는 특별히 고안된 항공 버켓)’을 장착하고 있으며, 미 2사단 2전투항공여단 소속의 조종사와 승무원 9명이 작업을 지원하고 있다. 필요시 추가 자산도 운용 할 것이다.

"ROK and U.S. personnel are working together to gain control and extinguish the fire in order to protect local ROK citizens. It's important we use our training and resources to partner with our allies when real-world issues like this arise. Being able work side by side with our partners demonstrates the iron-clad alliance between the ROK and the U.S.," said Col. Chad G. Carroll, USFK spokesperson.

주한미군사 대변인 채드 캐롤 대령은 “산불을 통제하고 진화하기 위해 한미장병은 함께 노력하고 있습니다. 이러한 실제 상황이 발생했을 때에 우리의 훈련경험과 자원이 동맹 파트너를 위해 쓰인다는 것이 중요한 것이며, 우리의 파트너들과 어깨를 맞대고 함께하는 것이야말로 철통같이 단단한 한미동맹의 모습을 보여주는 것이라고 생각합니다,” 라고 말했다.

Safety of the Korean people is USFK's primary concern as this fire continues.

지속되는 산불피해 속에서 한국 국민들의 안전이 주한미군의 제일 큰 관심사항이다.

"This devastating fire has resulted in casualties and evacuations. Our deepest sympathies and condolences are with the Korean people as we fight this together," Carroll said.

“엄청난 화재는 결국 사상자를 발생시키고 주민들을 대피하도록 만들었습니다. 우리는 한국 국민들에게 진심으로 위로를 보냅니다,” 라고 캐롤대령이 말했다.
