“굳건한 한미동맹과 Fight Tonight 연합방위태세 강화를 위한 노력과 한･미 간 긴밀한 협력 유지 당부”
“Called for efforts to strengthen the ROK-U.S. Alliance and the Fight Tonight combined defense posture, and maintaining of the close ROK-U.S. cooperation”

송영무 국방부장관은 2017년 7월 19일 오전 빈센트 브룩스 ( Vincent K. Brooks ) 연합사령관을 접견하고 북한의 핵･미사일 위협을 비롯한 한반도 안보정세, 한미동맹 강화 등에 대해 논의하였다.

SEOUL, South Korea - The Minister of National Defense Song Young-moo met with the Combined Forces Commander General Vincent K. Brooks Wednesday morning to discuss the security environment on the Korean Peninsula including North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats, and the strengthening of the ROK-U.S. Alliance.

송영무 장관은 최근 북한이 7월 4일 발사한 ICBM급 사거리 신형 탄도미사일 도발 감행 등 한반도와 세계의 안보를 위협하고 있다고 평가하였다.
Minister Song evaluated that North Korea threatens the security of the Korean Peninsula and the world through provocations including the test-launch of the new ICBM-range ballistic missile on July 4 and reaffirmed the close coordination of the Alliance in response to North Korean threats.

또한 한･미가 지난 정상회담을 통해 한미동맹의 굳건함을 대내･외에 과시하였으며 긴밀한 대북공조체제를 확인하였음을 언급하였다.
He also mentioned last month’s Summit meeting in Washington D.C. which emphasized the solidity of the ROK-U.S. Alliance both home and abroad.

더불어 그 어느 때보다 안보상황이 위중한 때에 국방장관 소임을 맡게 되어 막중한 책임감을 느끼지만, 한미연합사와 한국 합참을 중심으로 굳건한 한･미 연합방위태세가 유지되고 있어 마음 든든하다고 언급하였다.
The Minister added that he feels great responsibility as he takes office as the Minister of National Defense during an unprecedented security situation, but also feels assured that the ROK-U.S. combined defense posture is being upheld centered on the strength of CFC and ROK JCS.

브룩스 사령관은 송영무 장관의 제45대 국방부장관 취임을 축하하면서, 한미동맹은 한･미 양국의 새로운 정부 하에서도 양국 안보를 지켜내기 위해 굳건함을 유지할 것이라고 언급하였다.
General Brooks congratulated Minister Song on taking office as the 45th Minister of National Defense, and stated that “the ROK-U.S. Alliance remains steadfast and will continue to serve both nations and their new administration

또한 브룩스 사령관은 양국 軍의 연합된 노력이 중요함을 강조하면서 ’굳건한 동맹관계와 전투준비태세 유지‘를 위해 최선을 다할 것을 다짐하였다.
Emphasizing the importance of the combined efforts of both militaries, Brooks pledged to do his very best to “keep the relationship ironclad and the forces ready.”

송영무 장관은 엄중한 안보 상황하에서 최상의 연합방위태세 유지를 위해 소임을 다하고 있는 브룩스 사령관의 노고를 치하하면서, 오늘의 한미동맹은 선배들의 피로 맺어진 혈맹이며, 이는 오늘날의 ‘Fight Tonight' 정신과 강력한 연합방위태세로 이어지고 있다고 언급하였다.
Minister Song commended the efforts of General Brooks who has been fulfilling his duties to maintain the highest level of combined defense posture under the serious security crisis, and mentioned that the ROK-U.S. Alliance is a solid alliance forged from the blood of our predecessors, and this Alliance is carried forward by today’s ‘Fight Tonight’ spirit and strong combined defense posture.

더불어 이러한 한미동맹을 더욱 강화하기 위해 6가지 국방개혁 과제 중 하나로 ’상호보완적이고 굳건한 한미동맹 발전‘을 제시하였으며, 앞으로 한반도 안보의 근간인 한미동맹 강화를 위해 노력해 갈 것이라고 강조하였다.
The Minister also emphasized that he has proposed robust and complementary development of the ROK-U.S. Alliance as one of his six Defense Reform agendas and he will continue to work toward strengthening and developing the ROK-U.S. Alliance which is the foundation of security on the Korean Peninsula.
