It is encouraging that the outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome
(MERS) on the Korean Peninsula has shown signs of improvement, and
there continues to be no evidence that the disease has spread outside of
hospital or clinic settings.
Please note that MERS is still present on the Korean Peninsula though.
As you approach the holiday weekend and participate in festivities, we
encourage continued measures to minimize your risk of exposure. These
include frequent hand-washing, avoiding close contact with sick
individuals and avoiding unnecessary hospital visits.
United States Forces Korea Surgeon's Office will continue to provide updates throughout the coming weeks.
We encourage you to seek further information at the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/MERS or the Korean CDC website at www.mers.go.kr.
July 16th UPDATE:
There have been no new cases of MERS reported since 5 July 2015.
Should no additional cases be diagnosed, the ROK will be in a position
to declare the outbreak over by early August 2015.
We encourage continued measures to minimize your risk of exposure to
MERS and other respiratory diseases. These include disease awareness,
good hygiene practices and avoiding contact with sick individuals.
We encourage you to seek further information at the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/MERS or the Korean CDC website at www.mers.go.kr
