Press Statement by USFK Commander Gen. Robert B. "Abe" Abrams:
"On behalf of US Forces Korea, I enthusiastically support the agreement between the United States Department of Defense and Republic of Korea Ministry of National Defense to fund all USFK Korean National employee positions for the remainder of 2020."
“본인은 주한미군사령부를 대표하여, 한미 양국 국방부의 2020년 연말까지 주한미군 한국인 전 직책에 대한 자금 지원 합의를 전적으로 지지합니다.
This decision effectively ends the partial furlough due to a lapse in last year's Special Measures Agreement, and we expect our entire workforce to return back to USFK within the next few weeks.
이번 결정으로 지난해 방위비분담특별협정의 소멸로 인한 일부 한국인 직원의 무급 휴직이 사실상 종료되며, 전 한국인 직원들이 향후 수주내에 주한미군으로 복귀할 것입니다.
Throughout the entire partial furlough, USFK, INDOPACOM, and the Department of Defense maintained continuous dialogue with one another, and the ROK MND, to find a fair and equitable solution to end the partial furlough.
주한미군, 인도태평양사령부, 미국 국방부는 부분적 무급휴직 기간동안 상호간 지속적으로 대화하였고, 한국 국방부와도 무급휴직 종료를 위한 공정하고 공평한 해결 방안을 모색하기 위해 대화를 이어나갔습니다.
We all fully understood the impacts the partial furlough had on readiness and our ability to provide a robust combined defense posture, as well as the essential role our Korean National employees provide to the ROK-US Alliance.
우리는 부분 무급휴직이 준비태세와 강력한 연합방위태세를 제공하는 우리의 능력에 미친 영향과, 한국인 직원들이 한미 동맹에 중요한 역할을 수행하고 있다는 점을 잘 이해하고 있습니다.
USFK fought tirelessly for our employees, co-workers, and teammates to return to work and our hard work has paid-off. We are thrilled to welcome back our furloughed employees and end this strenuous period for them. Our ability to work together in finding a burden sharing solution for our Korean National employees is another positive sign of the power of our Alliance. Today’s announcement presents a short term solution for labor cost sharing, yet it still highlights the need for an overall Special Measures Agreement for the long term.
