United Nations Command

The United Nations Command in Korea, in coordination with the Republic of Korea government are continuing cooperation today at the Joint Security Area in order to facilitate a successful summit between President Moon Jae In and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

UN Command personnel are active in the areas outside President Moon's inner area of security within Panmunjom.  Key to this security effort is the UN Command's Joint Security Battalion, comprised of United States and Republic of Korea service members.

"As evidenced by the various light blue facilities evident in today's summit, the United Nations Command in Korea maintains responsibility for the Joint Security Area as part of the UN Armistice Agreement of 1953," said Col. Chad G. Carroll, UNC spokesperson.  "Given the significance of today's summit, UNC worked diligently in conjunction with the ROK government to ensure safe, secure, and comfortable conditions for this historic summit."
