CFC/USFK commander cites importance of ROK-Japan information sharing agreement

YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea (ROK) -- Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea commander, welcomes the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) signed today by the governments of the Republic of Korea and Japan.

“I believe this was a courageous decision by both countries that will help me accomplish my mission of defending the Republic of Korea,” said Gen. Brooks.

The GSOMIA enables South Korea and Japan to share military information, including intelligence, so both nations are better postured to counter North Korean threats.

“This agreement will promote greater collaboration and enhance the readiness of the combined ROK and U.S. forces to respond to the unacceptable threat posed by North Korea,” said Gen. Brooks.
