MARFORK changes command

YONGSAN, South Korea – Maj. Gen. Robert F. Hedelund relinquished command of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Korea to Maj. Gen. James W. Lukeman in a ceremony at Yongsan, South Korea, June 14.

Although there are only about 75 Marines in MARFORK, their mission has wide scope, and is important in ensuring readiness on the Korean Peninsula. MARFORK ensures Marines are trained and able to work with their South Korean partners through the Korea Marine Exercise Program.

In addition to taking command MARFORK, General Lukeman will also serve as the assistant chief of staff, strategy and plans for UNC, CFC and USFK.

General Hedelund took command in June 2015, and his next assignment is commanding general of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force.
