Biography

Colonel James McFadden

COL McFadden was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Air Defense in 1991. His company grade officer assignments include serving as a Chaparral Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Air Defense Artillery (ADA) Regiment at Fort Lewis, WA; the Battalion S-1 / Adjutant of the 5th Battalion, 5th ADA Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Stanley, South Korea; Military Science Instructor in the University of South Florida’s ROTC Battalion in Tampa, FL; Commander of Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 56th ADA Regiment, 6th ADA Brigade and Commander of Headquarters Battery, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command at Fort Bliss, TX.

In 2001, he Career Field Designated as a FA50 Force Management Officer.  His field grade officer assignments include serving in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8 as a System Synchronization Officer and Executive Officer for the Director of Integration; serving as an Research Fellow during a Training with Industry assignment at the RAND Corporation in Arlington, VA; serving as the Branch Chief of Force Integration in the G-3/5/7 of U.S. Army Central Command / 3rd U.S. Army at Fort McPherson, GA and Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; serving as the Organizational Development Branch Chief of the Future Force Integration Directorate and Brigade Modernization Integration Branch Chief of the Brigade Modernization Command, Fort Bliss, TX; serving as a Joint Requirements Officer in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8; serving as the J83/Capabilities and Assessments Division Chief/SA2015 Implementation Secretariat for U.S. Forces Korea, later the J84/Budget and Execution Division Chief/Comptroller and Deputy J-8;  to his current position as the Acting Director, J8 US Forces Korea.

COL McFadden’s civilian and military education include a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of North Georgia (formally NGC); a Masters of Art in Management and Leadership from Webster University; Masters of Science in National Resource Strategy from The Dwight D. Eisenhower School; the Air Defense Officer Basic and Advance Courses; Infantry Bradley Leaders Course; Combined Arms and Staff School, Command and General Staff College; Senior Service College and the Force Management Course.

COL McFadden’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with one silver leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with bronze star device, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Parachutist and Army Staff Identification Badges.
