Pet Transportation, Lodging, and Registration in Korea
Transportation Upon Arrival
When arriving in Korea, pets will typically accompany their owners on designated ground transportation from the airport or passenger terminal to the assigned in-processing location. Pets must remain in a secure carrier or crate throughout the duration of the trip.
Lodging with Pets
Temporary lodging facilities on U.S. military installations in Korea generally offer pet-friendly accommodations. Service Members and families should ensure they are prepared with food, water, and bathroom supplies for their pets during this time.
Installations across the peninsula feature walking trails and outdoor areas that are ideal for both acclimating pets and helping families adjust to their new surroundings. Pet owners are expected to follow all installation rules, including proper leash use and pet waste cleanup.
Pet Care and Boarding Services
Various pet care services are available near U.S. military installations in Korea, including grooming, boarding, and day care. Availability may vary depending on the location, and it is recommended that families contact local service providers in advance to confirm service options and make reservations.
Pet Registration Requirements
All personnel under the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) must register their pets with a U.S. military Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) within 10 duty days of arriving in Korea or after acquiring a new pet. The same timeline applies for notifying the installation housing office of pet ownership.
Registration typically includes:
Completing a veterinary treatment record (e.g., DD Form 2343 or service-specific equivalent)
Providing proof of a valid rabies vaccination
Submitting documentation of microchip implantation, if required
Pet registration must be completed in person at one of the authorized veterinary clinics located on U.S. military installations throughout Korea. Contact the nearest VTF to confirm required documents and procedures.
