Hazing, Bullying, and Maltreatment

January 27, 2012 - Commanders and Leaders; you are likely aware that the Army is investigating several allegations of hazing within its ranks that recently occurred in Afghanistan. These incidents appear to be isolated and are not indicative of a broader problem. However, I want to reiterate to you that any form of hazing, bullying, or maltreatment of a soldier, sailor, airmen, or Marine is unacceptable and directly countermands my command philosophy.

Initial Reinstatement of Curfew (Oct. 08, 2011)

October 08, 2011 - Commanders and Leaders; today I have reinstated a command-wide curfew for the next 30 days to ensure the continued mission-readiness of the command and assess our current operational environment.

Spice and other Prohibited Substances

July 01, 2011 - On 1 March 2011, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) ordered that five chemicals used to make “fake or synthetic marijuana” such as “Spice” are controlled substances. These chemicals are also illegal under the Republic of Korea’s (ROK) Narcotics Control Law.

Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) Surveys

April 23, 2011 - The Defense Travel Management Office (DTMO) is conducting a Living Pattern Survey (LPS) from 28 March to 15 May 2011. In June 2011, immediately following the LPS, trained USFK Pricing Teams will complete a Retail Price Schedule (RPS). Information you provided during the survey will be used to determine COLA rates here in Korea.

Unauthorized release of classified information is prohibited and, if conducted by a US service-member, may be punishable under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice.

I believe it’s important to hire USFK family members into the workplace when a position is available and a qualified and well-suited individual is available for that position.

Revised Command Sponsorship Program (CSP) Policy in Korea

November 30, 2010 - Every member of the command is vital to mission success; however, because of our limited infrastructure, Command Sponsorship (CS) in Korea can only be offered to about one-third of the over 14,000 Service members with families. To be sure we use this limited CS most effectively, I charged the CSP Task Force (TF) to determine the modifications needed to ensure the CSP meets our mission needs and is fair, consistent, predictable, and transparent.

The Command Sponsorship Program in Korea

November 16, 2010 - In my Sharp Point #23-10, dated Nov. 3, 2010, I announced the establishment of the Command Sponsorship Program (CSP) Task Force (TF) for U.S. Forces Korea. The TF consists of senior leaders from each service component in Korea, as well as the USFK Command Sergeant Major and other key advisors. The TF’s purpose is to determine how we can best allocate CSP opportunities to support mission readiness and critical task accomplishment, while improving the quality of life for service members and their families.

The Command Sponsorship Program (CSP) in Korea

November 03, 2010 - Accompanied tours for all Service Members stationed in Korea is the long term goal of the Department of Defense; however, we must build additional infrastructure before we can reach this goal. Peninsula-wide, we have increased the number of command sponsored families from about 1,800 in 2008 to over 4,400 today.

Influenza Prevention Program

October 04, 2010 - Seasonal influenza poses a significant threat to military readiness. It is imperative that every USFK Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, and eligible beneficiary receive their annual influenza vaccination or “flu shot” to protect against this health threat.
