Invincible Spirit Exercise

July 23, 2010 - The Republic of Korea Minister of National Defense and the United States Secretary of Defense announced this week that from 25-28 July, our two nations will conduct a Joint maritime and air readiness exercise named “Invincible Spirit”. This is the first in a series of combined ROK-U.S. air and naval exercises to be held off the east and west coasts of Korea.

Command Sponsorship Program (CSP) Allocation Plan

July 02, 2010 - Over the past few years we’ve brought over 2,000 additional families to Korea so they can be stationed with their loved ones. We will continue an upward trend in the coming years as the authorized number of CSP positions in Korea increases from our current level of 4,467 to 4,636 for FY11; however, I must balance this increase in family members with the quality of life at each location.

CANCELLATION OF CURFEW POLICY

June 30, 2010 - Effective 2 July 2010, I am rescinding and cancelling the USFK curfew policy for members of the United States Armed Forces, when in the Republic of Korea.

PATRIOT EXPRESS Returns to Korea

June 30, 2010 - The Patriot Express (PE) has returned to Korea, providing two flights per week to and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for our PCSing service members and their families. These are USTRANSCOM-contracted commercial international charter flights which offer an array of in-flight amenities and operate the same as scheduled commercial airlines.

Independence Day Safety Message

June 24, 2010 - On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress officially adopted the “unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America.” We continue to celebrate our nation’s Declaration of Independence every 4th of July, and we are reminded of the very freedoms that Service Members around the globe have given their lives to protect.

DoDDS-K School Year 2010-2011 – Enrollment Policy for Area 1

June 15, 2010 - In school year 2010-2011 (SY10-11), we will open a K-8 school at United States Army Garrison-Casey (USAG-Casey) on 30 August 2010. This major milestone will allow us to bring more families into Area I.

Memorial Day Safety Message

May 24, 2010 - Memorial Day was first observed on 30 May 1868 as Decoration Day, officially proclaimed by General John Logan, National Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No.11. Flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate Soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

Key Resolve/Foal Eagle (KR/FE) '10 Safety Message

March 03, 2010 - This week our combined ROK and U.S. forces begin to execute their first major exercise of the year: Key Resolve/Foal Eagle (KR/FE) ’10. I charge all of you to use this opportunity to improve ROK/U.S. combat readiness and joint/combined interoperability. Always remember that the safety of our service members and safeguarding of equipment are major training objectives for all of our operations.

President’s Day and Lunar New Year - Holiday Safety

February 04, 2010 - February 15th marks two important holidays for both USFK and the Republic of Korea – U. S. President’s Day and the Republic of Korea Lunar New Year (Seol-Nal). President’s Day is set aside to pay tribute to the dedicated Americans who served as President of the United States during turbulent and challenging times, allowing it to become the great Nation that it is today. Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays celebrated in the Republic of Korea – a time of family gatherings, reaffirming bonds, and paying tribute to elders as the Lunar New Year begins.

Korea Military Academy Visit

January 22, 2010 - Every year, we are invited to be a part of a proud military tradition that symbolizes the strong relationship between USFK and our Republic of Korea counterparts. During this visit, we have the opportunity to share our own national and military culture with the best and brightest of the ROK military’s future leadership. We also get a chance to sow seeds of camaraderie with a new generation of future ROK leaders.

December 03, 2009 - On 15 November 2009 we began the Annual Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA) Utility Survey for Korea to carefully assess and adjust the current Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA). This important survey runs through 14 December 2009 to help you and your loved ones receive the OHA you deserve.

USFK Annual Influenza Prevention Program

September 02, 2009 - Protect yourself and your loved ones. It’s important that every USFK Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, Healthcare Provider, DoD Civilian, and Family Member – including children, and military retirees – receive their annual influenza or ‘flu’ vaccination to protect against this seasonal health threat. Active Duty Service Members shall receive their annual flu vaccination by 16 October 2009. This requirement pertains to the regular, seasonal flu vaccine, not the H1N1 vaccine. We are working to have the H1N1 vaccine available later this year.

Labor Day Safety Message

September 02, 2009 - Labor Day is celebrated in honor and recognition of the American workers who contributed so much to our nation's strength, workplace freedom, prosperity, and leadership. For USFK personnel, Labor Day follows the completion of Ulchi Freedom Guardian training exercise and is the last official holiday of the summer season.

USFK Computer Security Awareness

September 02, 2009 - We all depend on Information Technology to conduct our day-to-day mission. With these wonderful tools comes great responsibility to respect the classification of the information we are working with and the systems we are using to communicate on. It can take up to a week to resolve a computer security incident, and each compromise can affect the “Fight Tonight” capability of USFK and our allies.

Ulchi Freedom Guardian 09 Success!

August 27, 2009 - Congratulations and thank you to our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and civilian employees for making this year's Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise a great success! Your efforts are a tribute to the entire team's effort. However, we can't let our guard down now. Commanders and leaders must remain personally engaged until we return all participants and equipment to home stations - safe and secure.
