Key Resolve/Foal Eagle (KR/FE) '10 Safety Message
March 03, 2010 - This week our combined ROK and U.S. forces begin to execute their first major exercise of the year: Key Resolve/Foal Eagle (KR/FE) ’10. I charge all of you to use this opportunity to improve ROK/U.S. combat readiness and joint/combined interoperability. Always remember that the safety of our service members and safeguarding of equipment are major training objectives for all of our operations.
President’s Day and Lunar New Year - Holiday Safety
February 04, 2010 - February 15th marks two important holidays for both USFK and the Republic of Korea – U. S. President’s Day and the Republic of Korea Lunar New Year (Seol-Nal). President’s Day is set aside to pay tribute to the dedicated Americans who served as President of the United States during turbulent and challenging times, allowing it to become the great Nation that it is today. Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays celebrated in the Republic of Korea – a time of family gatherings, reaffirming bonds, and paying tribute to elders as the Lunar New Year begins.
Korea Military Academy Visit
January 22, 2010 - Every year, we are invited to be a part of a proud military tradition that symbolizes the strong relationship between USFK and our Republic of Korea counterparts. During this visit, we have the opportunity to share our own national and military culture with the best and brightest of the ROK military’s future leadership. We also get a chance to sow seeds of camaraderie with a new generation of future ROK leaders.
USFK on Facebook Kickoff
January 13, 2010 - I’m starting our Official USFK Facebook site on 15 January 2010, at www.usfk.mil. My intent is to create a forum for a professional exchange of ideas and information for the command.
2009 Holiday Season Safety
December 22, 2009 - The holiday season is upon us. I want all of our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Civilian Employees, and Family Members to enjoy this well-deserved rest and relaxation period. I encourage you to make time to reflect on and give thanks for all the blessings, freedom, and bounty we share.
Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA) Utilities Survey
December 03, 2009 - On 15 November 2009 we began the Annual Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA) Utility Survey for Korea to carefully assess and adjust the current Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA). This important survey runs through 14 December 2009 to help you and your loved ones receive the OHA you deserve.
USFK Annual Influenza Prevention Program
September 02, 2009 - Protect yourself and your loved ones. It’s important that every USFK Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, Healthcare Provider, DoD Civilian, and Family Member – including children, and military retirees – receive their annual influenza or ‘flu’ vaccination to protect against this seasonal health threat. Active Duty Service Members shall receive their annual flu vaccination by 16 October 2009. This requirement pertains to the regular, seasonal flu vaccine, not the H1N1 vaccine. We are working to have the H1N1 vaccine available later this year.
Labor Day Safety Message
September 02, 2009 - Labor Day is celebrated in honor and recognition of the American workers who contributed so much to our nation's strength, workplace freedom, prosperity, and leadership. For USFK personnel, Labor Day follows the completion of Ulchi Freedom Guardian training exercise and is the last official holiday of the summer season.
USFK Computer Security Awareness
September 02, 2009 - We all depend on Information Technology to conduct our day-to-day mission. With these wonderful tools comes great responsibility to respect the classification of the information we are working with and the systems we are using to communicate on. It can take up to a week to resolve a computer security incident, and each compromise can affect the “Fight Tonight” capability of USFK and our allies.
Ulchi Freedom Guardian 09 Success!
August 27, 2009 - Congratulations and thank you to our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and civilian employees for making this year's Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise a great success! Your efforts are a tribute to the entire team's effort. However, we can't let our guard down now. Commanders and leaders must remain personally engaged until we return all participants and equipment to home stations - safe and secure.
International Marriages of USFK Personnel
August 24, 2009 - Getting married is one of life's most significant events. When a marriage takes place overseas between a U.S. Service member and a non-U.S. spouse, it can be complicated. There are numerous legal, medical and financial issues that both parties must understand regarding their legal rights and obligations in becoming married.
Prevention of H1N1 During UFG 09
August 20, 2009 - Preventing the spread of H1N1 ("swine flu") is critical to achieving our objectives for Ulchi Freedom Guardian: (1) the safety and welfare of our Service Members and (2) our full participation in this critical exercise as we prepare for OPCON Transfer 2012.
21 - 09 - Ulchi Freedom Guardian 09 Exercise
August 10, 2009 - Ulchi Freedom Guardian (UFG) 09 Exercise is a demanding training exercise that presents a great opportunity for our warfighting team to exercise and evaluate our mission-essential tasks and improve our warfighting capabilities.

19 - 09 Reducing Mental Health Stigma Policy
June 09, 2009 - While living and working in Korea is a wonderful experience, our “fight and win tonight” mission can be stressful on the mind and spirit. When our Service Members suffer physical injuries, they usually seek medical treatment without feeling ashamed.
18 - 09 DoDDS-K School Year 2009-2010 - Space Available
June 08, 2009 - As Department of Defense Dependent Schools-Korea (DoDDS-K) plans for School Year 2009-2010, I want to ensure everyone understands the limited enrollment opportunities for space available students.
17 - 09 Memorial Day Safety Message
May 12, 2009 - We can make this day even more memorable by not losing a single soldier, civilian employee, or family member to needless accidents or injuries.
16 - 09 USFK Good Neighbor English Camp
May 04, 2009 - Community Relations activities and student-to-student contacts are two primary components of our Good Neighbor Program. The USFK Good Neighbor English Camp at Yongsan is one of those wonderful events that allow us to leverage both simultaneously.
15 - 09 USFK Sponsor Talking Points
April 29, 2009 - We understand our new tour length and incentive policies have changed the paradigm of Korea from one of standard one year tours to one of two and three year tours and, for those with dependents, family centric tours. I need everyone's help to get the word out to projected inbounds on these important changes.
14 - 09 Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)
April 20, 2009 - The time spent answering the survey questions is key to the DoD setting equitable COLA rates.
13 - 09 Korea Tour Length Changes and Incentives
April 07, 2009 - "This is a great change for everyone; our service members and their families who can now be stationed here together, our military force in Korea which benefits from improved readiness and continuity, and the Republic of Korea" said General Walter Sharp, USFK commander.
12 - 09 Stand Down for Standards
April 01, 2009 - I changed the Curfew Policy after consultations with Senior Leaders and service members of all ranks and services from across Korea. I did this because of my belief and confidence in all of our service members to act according to proper standards of conduct.
