Colonel Christopher V. Wynder is a native of Hampton, Virginia. He received his commission and Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida A&M University in 1992. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Troy University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
His service includes overseas assignments in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. His initial active duty assignment was in Taegu Korea with the 188th Military Police Company, where he was a Platoon Leader. His next assignment was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina with the 108th Military Police Company (Air Assault), where he served as a Platoon Leader and deployed to Haiti in support of Operation Uphold Democracy in 1994. He commanded the Fort Belvoir Military Police Company, followed by an assignment as the Plans and Readiness Officer at United States Army Criminal Investigation Command (USACIDC). He later served as the Military Police Branch Professional Development Officer at Human Resources Command in Alexandria, Virginia. In 2002, Colonel Wynder held consecutive assignments as a Training Officer, Operations Officer and Chief of Long Range Plans for the 89th MP Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas. He later deployed from Fort Hood with the 4th Infantry Division, as the Deputy Division Provost Marshal in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon graduation from the Command and General Staff College in 2005, he served as the Executive Officer of the 19th Military Police Battalion (CID) in Yongsan, Korea.
In 2007, Colonel Wynder was reassigned to the Training and Doctrine Command Headquarters at Fort Monroe, Virginia, where he was a Joint Doctrine Developer. During his assignment at Fort Monroe in 2008, he deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan and served as the Deputy Commanding Officer for Task Force Guardian in support of the 101st Air Assault Division. In 2010, Colonel Wynder assumed command of the 525th Military Police Battalion at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he led Soldiers conducting a strategically sensitive detention operations mission. After his two-year command assignment, he moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky, to serve as the Military Police Branch Chief at Human Resources Command. In that capacity, he oversaw the word-wide assignment and career management of over 2,000 military police officers.
Colonel Wynder’s additional military education includes the Military Police Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, and the Army War College Fellowship Program. Colonel Wynder has received numerous military awards and decorations to include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Parachutist Badge and Air Assault badge. He is also the recipient of the Military Police Corps’ Order of the Marechaussee.
Colonel Wynder is married and has five daughters.
