Twelve USFK-affiliated Individuals Confirmed with COVID-19

PA-001-21 | Sept. 15, 2021

Twelve USFK-affiliated individuals tested positive for COVID-19 between Sept. 4 and 13.

One service member and one DoD civilian stationed at United States Army Garrison–Humphreys and two service members stationed at K-16 tested positive on Sept. 12 and 13 after developing symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

Two service members stationed at K-16, one Korean National employee stationed at USAG–Yongsan, and four family members - two stationed at USAG–Humphreys, one stationed at Osan Air Base, and one stationed in Daegu - tested positive between Sept. 4 and 13 after providing a screening sample as part of USFK’s contact tracing for their direct contact with individuals who recently tested positive for the virus.

One service member stationed at USAG–Humphreys tested positive on Sept. 12 after providing a testing sample required to depart the peninsula for international travel.

All individuals are currently in isolation at a facility designated for confirmed COVID-19 cases at USAG–Humphreys, Osan Air Base or a Korean medical facility.

KDCA, local government public health and USFK health professionals are actively conducting contact tracing to determine whether anyone else may have been exposed to these individuals and to identify and ensure all known on-post and off-post facilities visited by the individuals are thoroughly cleaned.

USFK remains at a high level of readiness with more than 80% of its affiliated community vaccinated, and less than 1% of its active duty service members currently confirmed positive with COVID-19.

USFK continues to maintain a robust combined defense posture to protect the Republic of Korea against any threat or adversary, while maintaining prudent preventive measures to protect the force.
