The Republic of Korea recently announced that it desired to expedite the return process of 26 U.S. military installations from United States Forces Korea to RoK government control.

대한민국 정부는 최근 26개의 주한미군기지를 주한미군으로 부터 대한민국에 반환하는 절차를 신속하게 추진할 것이라고 발표했다.

Their desire to expedite the return process includes Camps Eagle and Long (Wonju), parcels of Camp Market (Bupyeong), the Shea Range parcel located at Camp Hovey (Dongducheon) as well as stating their intent to initiate the return process of Yongsan within this year.

신속 반환 절차가 추진될 기지에는 원주에 있는 캠프 이글과 캠프 롱, 부평에 있는 캠프마켓, 동두천에 있는 캠프 호비 쉐아 사격장이 포함되며, 용산기지는 반환 절차를 올해 안에 개시하겠다고 밝혔다.

Fifteen of the 26 U.S. military installations, including four sites specifically requested for transfer at the earliest possible date - Shea Range (available since October 2012), Camps Eagle and Long (December 2010) and parcels of Camp Market (February 2015) - have been vacated, closed and available for transfer to the RoK government as identified above. Two parcels of Yongsan Garrison have been vacated, closed and available for transfer since 2014 with another three parcels since summer 2019 for a total of 5 parcels available now.

26개의 미군기지 중 가능한 조기에 반환되기를 특별히 요청한 4개의 기지, 즉 쉐아 사격장 (2012년 10월), 캠프 이글(2010년 10월), 캠프롱(2010년 10월), 그리고 캠프마켓(2015년 2월) 를 포함한 15개의 기지는 이미 비워 져서, 폐쇄되었고, 위에서 언급한 바와 같이 대한민국 정부로 전환이 가능하다. 용산 기지의 두 구역은 이미 비워져 폐쇄되어 2014년 이후부터 반환이 가능하고 다른 세 개의 구역도 2019년 여름 부터 반환이 가능하므로 현재는 총 5개의 구역에 대한 반환이 가능하다.

As a testament to our US-RoK alliance, USFK remains committed to returning installations as expeditiously as possible to RoK government control in accordance with the 2002 Land Partnership Program, 2004 Yongsan Relocation Program and the provisions of the Status of Forces Agreement.

주한미군사령부는 한미동맹의 증거로서 2002년 연합토지관리계획 (LPP)과 2004년 용산기지이전계획 (YRP), 그리고 한미행정협정 (SOFA)에 따라 가능한한 조속히 기지들을 반환할 것을 약속한 바 있다.
